How To Make My Hair Lighter

Lightening your hair can warm up your complexion, add interest to your look, and even shave years off your appearance. Whether you’re looking to go drastically lighter or just want to give your hair a healthy glow, we’ve got you covered! In this article, we’ll look at a few methods you can use to make your hair lighter.

Try A DIY Bleaching Treatment

If you’re looking for an alternative to chemical bleaching, we’re happy to tell you that there are a variety of at-home bleaching treatments you can try. We’ll walk you through a few effective home hair lightening treatments below.

Chamomile Tea

Did you know chamomile tea is more than a delicious, sleep-enhancing beverage? Chamomile flowers contain potent flavonoids that can subtly brighten and lighten your strands. If you want to try this treatment, use five to seven chamomile tea bags to brew a strong batch of tea.

Next, mix in two teaspoons of honey and the juice from half a lemon. Once the tea drops to a comfortable temperature, use it to thoroughly saturate your hair. Head outside and sit in the sun for up to 45 minutes before rinsing your hair well.

Sea Salt Spray

If you’ve ever spent time at the beach, you may have noticed that your hair develops natural highlights after a while. This is because salt opens your hair cuticle, which allows sunlight to enter your strands and destroy the melanin inside. Luckily, you can recreate this effect without taking a trip to the sea!

First, pour a tablespoon of sea salt into a spray bottle and add half a cup of warm water. Mix well and saturate your hair with the spray. Sit in the sun for up to an hour. Once your time is up, rinse your hair with fresh water before washing and conditioning your locks as usual.

Beer Rinse

Got some leftover beer in the fridge? Before you toss it, consider giving this lightening treatment a try. Beer is slightly acidic and can help the sun remove some of the pigments from your strands. If you want to give this method a try, empty two or three bottles of beer into a container, and let it sit for a few hours. Pour the flat beer onto freshly shampooed hair and sit in the sun for up to half an hour. Once your time is up, rinse the beer from your hair and follow up with your favorite conditioner.

Get Your Hair Bleached

There’s a reason why bleach is known as the most effective hair lightener. Bleach can destroy both artificial and natural pigments, which help you achieve drastically lighter shades. Just remember that bleaching can cause severe breakage and hair loss, so we recommend getting your hair professionally lightened whenever possible. You can either get all of your hair lightened or create the illusion of fully lightened hair with strategically placed highlights.

Lightening your hair is highly damaging in most cases. So, make sure you’re using plenty of strengthening and moisturizing products before, during, and after your lightening treatments. And don’t forget to use sunscreen to protect your skin whenever you’re out in the sun. That said, we hope this article has provided all the information you were after and helps you achieve the lighter shade you’ve been dreaming of!
