5 Fabulous Hairstyles for Type 3 Hair

Type 3 hair is notoriously difficult to style, since it has twists and turns that often result in knots and tangles. Yet, there are tons of styles that you can try on your type 3 curls - all you need is a little hairstyle inspo and styling guidance. In this article, we’ll share with you 5 fabulous hairstyles for type 3 hair.

What is Type 3 Hair?

Type 3 hair is curly, frizzy, and full of personality. There are three subtypes of type 3 hair that you need to know about, and they include:

  • 3A - Large, loose curls the size of sidewalk chalk.
  • 3B - Voluminous, springy curls the size of a Sharpie marker.
  • 3C - Tight, straw-sized curls that may resemble corkscrews.

Now that you know what type 3 hair is, let’s explore some hairstyles you can try on your curls.

Wash N’ Go

When it comes to styling type 3 curls, you may find that you’ll have an easier time working with them than fighting against them. A wash n’ go is a great style for curly girls, because it celebrates natural curls and doesn’t require a ton of work. Not to mention, it looks absolutely beautiful whether you have 3A, 3B, or 3C curls.

To get this look, wash your hair, apply oil and/or a moisturizing cream, apply your Daily Dose leave-in, and then allow your curls to air dry.

Messy High Pony

A messy high pony is a low-maintenance option for the on-the-go chick. It looks relaxed and put-together at the same time, making it a great style for both formal and casual occasions. The curls fall effortlessly, without looking unkempt or out of place.

Get this look by pulling all of your curls toward the crown of your head and securing them with an elastic. Then pull out random sections of hair along your hairline and at the nape of your neck.

Daring Curly Mohawk

Looking for a drastic change that’ll make you stand out? The curly mohawk will do just that. Only a select few curlies are willing to shave the hair on the sides of their head, so we don’t blame you if this one’s a bit too much. Still, there’s no denying the beauty and boldness of a curly mohawk!

Pro Tip: If you want to try the look without shaving your hair, you can! Just brush the sides of your hair upwards and secure them with bobby pins.

Sassy Curly Cut

Summertime is the best time to reach for the scissors and go short. Why? A short cut will keep you cooler during the hotter months and allow you to show off your face! So, if you know a thing or two about cutting hair, grab your hair cutting shears and go to town. If you don’t, find a hairstylist for a professional cut.

Super Short Curly Pixie

Pixies are not just for straighter hair textures - they’re for everyone! This curly pixie is super short in the back and longer in the front for styling versatility. It also features some cute face-framing sideburns for extra flair. The curly pixie just doesn’t get better than this!

One or more of these styles will be perfect for you, no doubt! We hope that this article helps you decide on your next great curly hairstyle.
